CRYSTALLIZATION
It is imperative to monitor crystallization in the sugar process. CANTY’s vision technology can provide the on screen visual for the operator and can also provide an objective analysis of the size and concentration inside the pan at any time from initial seeding through to full growth.

Seed Control:

Pan seeding is a vital method used in sugar production to manage crystallization and minimize secondary nucleation (the formation of unwanted, tiny crystals).

It’s particularly important early in the crystallization process, when crystals are small and the risk of uncontrolled nucleation is high.

One effective seed control strategy is using cooling crystallization of syrup or remelt to produce seed crystals of a specific size (typically 100 µm). This allows for controlled crystal growth from the initial stage up to a stable intermediate size.

2. Large Grain:

Large grain refers to the desired crystal size of the final sugar product.

Achieving the desired crystal size, or “large grain,” requires careful control of the crystallization process, including seed control.

3. Remelt:

Remelt is sugar that is re-dissolved and reintroduced into the crystallization process.

Low-grade sugars that weren’t seeded initially are often re-melted and added back into the A and B strikes to enhance recovery and optimize crystal growth.

Using remelt in a controlled cooling crystallization process can generate the seed crystals (typically 100 µm) needed for effective seed control.

DECOLORING – ION EXCHANGE INTERFACE CONTROL

Raw sugarcane syrup is yellow or tan and requires removal of color before crystallization; filtration reduces much of this color, but remaining soluble organic impurities are hard to eliminate. The ion exchange process in the refinery is used for final decolorization. It is a continuous process whereby sugar liquor is passed through a resin bed & color is trapped within the bed. CANTY’s interface control camera systems offer an affordable, reliable way to measure liquid-resin interfaces, easily mounting onto existing gauge glasses or replacing sight glasses, with video verification ensuring accurate, repeatable measurements.

FILTER CONTROL

Filtration ensures that biologics—like therapeutic proteins, antibodies, and vaccines—are safe, pure, and effective. Each filter is chosen based on the size, charge, and chemistry of what needs to be removed or retained. Effective filtration processes, including careful filter selection, integrity testing, and monitoring for turbidity and filter breakthrough, are essential for ensuring the quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of pharmaceutical products. Filter breakthrough occurs when a filter fails to adequately remove particles or microorganisms from a solution, allowing them to pass through into the filtrate.

Turbidity can be an early indicator of filter breakthrough, particularly in-depth filters that are susceptible to turbidity breakthrough. Monitoring turbidity with CANTY’s high resolution image sensors can signal unwanted particles in the filtrate caused by the contamination. This real-time analysis can prevent wasted time and material, and aid in producing high-quality, safe, and effective products.

LAB SYSTEM

CANTY’S imaging systems can be run at line through the use of a sweep sampler, or offline as laboratory instruments. This system provides direct correlation to traditional sieve analysis, but does so in a much shorter analysis time, with much less operator input required.

LEVEL CONTROL

Level control is crucial in the food processing industry to ensure product quality, safety, and efficient operation. CANTY Vision Systems can provide accurate level measurement and control systems to help prevent overfilling, which can lead to spills and contamination, and underfilling, which can affect product consistency and safety. Additionally, precise level control is essential for inventory management, minimizing waste, and optimizing resource utilization.

MEDIA PREP DILUTION

Media preparation refers to the process of creating a nutrient-rich solution, or culture medium, that supports the growth and propagation of microorganisms, cells, or tissues in a laboratory setting. Carefully combining specific ingredients, such as nutrients, buffering agents, and growth factors, to provide the optimal environment for the target biological material.

Dilution is the process of making a solution less concentrated by adding more solvent (usually water). It’s a crucial step for various reasons, including isolating pure cultures, achieving desired concentrations for testing, and minimizing interference from other components in a sample.

CANTY gives you the tools for real time analysis of the dilution process for volumetric inaccuracies, contamination, and inconsistencies.
